Subjects are the specific topics that customers can book appointments for.

## Viewing subjects

1.  Go to **Organisation** > **Subjects**.
    
2.  The subjects list shows all configured subject groups and their subjects.

## Adding a subject

1.  Go to **Organisation** > **Subjects**.
    
2.  Click **\+ Subject**.

3.  Fill in the following fields:
    

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Available for customers | Toggle to make the subject visible in the booking plugin |
| Title | The display name of the subject |
| External ID | An identifier used for integrations and plugin filtering |
| Subject group | The subject group this subject belongs to |
| Order | A number that determines display order within the subject group |
| Description | A description shown to customers (maximum 255 characters) |
| Instructions | Additional instructions displayed to customers before booking |
| Outcome lists | The outcome lists linked to this subject for completion and cancellation |

4.  Click **Save**.
    

## Planning rules per subject

For each subject, you can configure default planning rules that apply across all offices:

| Rule | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Allowed | Whether this subject is available for booking |
| Auto accept | Automatically confirm appointments or require manual acceptance |
| Duration | The default appointment length in minutes |
| Buffer | Trailing buffer time after each appointment |
| Granularity | The interval at which time slots are offered |
| Earliest slot | Minimum lead time before an appointment can be booked |
| Latest slot | Maximum number of days in the future that slots are shown |
| Max concurrent | Maximum number of overlapping appointments per Agent |

> Office Managers can override these rules at the office level.
